1. Introduction

Subtitle Studio, operated by Articue Tech Limited ("we," "our," or "us"), is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your personal information is collected, used, and disclosed by Articue Tech Limited.

This Privacy Policy applies to our website, and its associated subdomains (collectively, our "Service") alongside our application, Subtitle Studio. By accessing or using our Service, you signify that you have read, understood, and agree to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.

2. Data Privacy & Offline Processing

Subtitle Studio is designed with a privacy-first approach. All video processing, audio transcription, and subtitle generation happens locally on your device (offline).

  • Your video files are never uploaded to our servers or any third-party cloud.
  • We do not have access to your video content, audio, or generated subtitles.
  • The AI models run locally on your computer — on Mac using Apple's Neural Engine, and on Windows using your CPU or an optional NVIDIA GPU.

3. Information We Collect

Since our core functionality works offline, we collect very limited information:

  • License Information: When you purchase a license, we process your payment through our payment provider (e.g., Stripe) and generate a license key. We store the email address associated with the purchase to send you the license key and for support purposes.
  • Onboarding Registration: Separately from optional usage analytics, we record one onboarding entry per installation, including a random installation ID, onboarding progress and survey answers, app version, distribution build and timestamp. When available, the device fingerprint and license link connect this entry to your purchase. These records help us count new app opens and understand onboarding completion, regardless of the optional analytics setting.
  • Website Download Counts: We record download button clicks with their time, platform and website language. This counter uses no cookies or visitor identifiers and stores no IP address. Clicks do not identify unique people or confirm completed downloads.
  • App Analytics (only with your consent): The first time you open the app we ask whether you want to share anonymous usage data. Nothing is sent unless you agree. If you do, we collect:
    • Which steps you use (onboarding, importing a file, generating, editing and exporting subtitles, seeing the upgrade screen) and how long they take;
    • Errors such as failed model downloads or transcriptions, with file paths and names removed;
    • Device information: operating system and version, processor, memory, graphics card, language setting and app version;
    • Your region: your device's timezone, system and app language, and the country your connection comes from. We do not store your IP address.

    This data is tied to a random installation ID, not to your name, email or license. We never collect your videos, audio, subtitle text, translations or file names. You can turn analytics off at any time in the app under Help ▸ Privacy & Analytics, and you can ask us to delete the data from your installation by contacting us.

  • Update Checks: The app periodically checks our servers to see if a new version is available. This request includes your current app version and OS version but no personal data.
  • Website Analytics (with consent): When you visit our website, we may use Google Analytics cookies to understand how the site is used, and Google Ads cookies to measure whether our ads lead to downloads or purchases (never for remarketing or personalised ads). These cookies are only set if you accept them via our cookie banner, except for visitors in Hong Kong and Taiwan, where they are on by default and can be switched off on our Cookie Policy page. 4. Payment Processing

We use third-party payment processors to process payments. We do not store or collect your payment card details. That information is provided directly to our third-party payment processors whose use of your personal information is governed by their Privacy Policy.
